Anna Douangphachanh
Anna is the daughter and sister of Lao refugees who resettled in the United States in 1991. She currently serves as a Board Member of Legacies of War, an educational and advocacy organization dedicated to raising awareness about the Laotian Civil War and the United States’ major bombing and involvement through the U.S. Secret War. The organization advocates for victim’s assistance and supports the removal of unexploded ordnance (UXO) from Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. With over 270 million cluster bombies dropped on Laos, approximately 30% or 80 million, did not explode on impact and are still in the ground. These bombs, dropped over 50 years ago, continue to harm civilians, especially children, and hinder the growth of the country. Legacies of War also provides a space for healing the emotional and mental impacts of war.
She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and maintains an active interest in neuroscience and behavioral psychology. She currently is the Program Associate with the Neuroscience Research Center at the Wisconsin Medical College. She believes that the knowledge she has gained through both formal education and independent research in psychology and neuroscience, along with years of therapy, has helped her heal from the intergenerational effects of war. After university, she built a career in event planning and program coordination, gaining experience organizing meetings at both national and international levels. Although her Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification expired in 2024, she continues to plan and coordinate events professionally as well as in her personal time.
Outside of her professional and advocacy work, Anna is deeply curious and creatively driven. She embraces a wide range of interests and enjoys staying active outdoors through cycling, pickleball, volleyball, and cross-country skiing. She also holds a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification (2023–2026).
